Testing and Validation of High Voltage and Low Voltage Automotive Components

Automotive Component EMC Testing

Advances in vehicle electrification, connectivity and automotive driving are pushing the automotive industry to innovate. But these technological advances are also raising new challenges to validate the safety and performance of vehicle components. More complex electronics also mean higher voltages, thermal management issues or radio components emitting at higher frequencies.

These are some of the current challenges that require state-of-the-art facilities and testing expertise.

EMC TESTING FOR LH & HV COMPONENTS

Applus+ 3C Test is fully accredited to test the EMC compliance of automotive components against international, sectorial and OEM standards. We boast of key approvals from automakers with their own closed list of recognised laboratories, including:

  • General Motors (GM) Recognised Lab
  • Ford Recognised Lab
  • Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Recognised Lab
  • Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) Recognised Lab

Our semi-anechoic chambers are fully equipped to test HV components for EVs, with state-of-the-art test equipment such as bi-directional power supplies, chillers and other auxiliary systems.

Industry EMC Standards

  • Radiated emissions (CISPR 12, CISPR 25 and CISPR 36)
  • Radiated Immunity (ISO 11451, ISO 11452, SAE J555, SAE J1113)
  • Conducted immunity and emission (ISO 7637, ISO 16750, SAE J1113)
  • Immunity to electrostatic discharges (ISO 10605, SAE J1113)
  • Specific tests for High voltage components (ISO 7637-4)

ENVIRONMENTAL AND ELECTRIC TESTING

At component level, electric, climatic and vibration requirements are usually included in the same test standards, both for LV and HV components. We are able to provide the whole sequence to design and product validation.

  • 12 V & 24 V components (e.g. ISO 16750,  LV 124 and other OEM standards)
  • 48 V components (e.g. ISO 21780, LV 148, and other OEM)
  • High Voltage Components up to 1500 V (e.g. ISO 21498, LV 123 and other OEM standards)
Electrical Testing on Components

ELECTRICAL TESTING

  • LV power-net (12 / 24 / 48 VDC) electrical tests
  • HV power-net (Up to 1.5000 VDC) electrical tests
  • Electrical safety test and inspections
Thermal Shock Testing

CLIMATIC TESTING

  • High and Low Temperatures
  • Thermal shock
  • Humidity
  • Altitude
  • Salt corrosion
Vibrations testing

VIBRATION TESTING

  • Random vibration
  • Sinusoidal vibration
  • Mixed mode vibration
  • Shock testing (half-sine, sawtooth, rectangular)
  • Combined climatic and vibration
  • Drop, topple and free fall shocks
